Avenues Australia Christmas Appeal: Supporting Those in Hardship

The holiday season is a time for joy, giving, and spreading warmth to those who need it most. This year, Avenues Australia, along with our partners we’re inviting you to join us in making a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing hardship during the festive season. Together, we can bring light to those in need and help make this Christmas a little brighter.

Christmas can be a difficult time for many, particularly for individuals and families struggling with homelessness, domestic violence, poverty, or uncertainty due to refugee status. While for most, it’s a time of celebration, for others it can be a difficult time. That’s why we’re gathering both cash and physical donations to support four vital charities that are working tirelessly to assist those who need help most this season.

Charities We are Supporting

  • The Salvation Army is a well-known charity that provides critical support to vulnerable individuals and families all year round, but especially during the Christmas period. They offer food hampers, financial assistance, and a range of services to help people experiencing hardship. With your donations, they can continue to offer emergency relief and support to those facing crisis, ensuring they don’t go without during the holiday season.

  • Manna provides vital food relief and support services to homeless individuals, families, and children. One of their standout programs is the Kids Breakfast Program, which ensures that children in need have access to a healthy start to their day. In addition to food relief, Manna offers other essential services to homeless individuals and families, helping them regain stability and dignity.

  • CARAD plays an essential role in providing support to asylum seekers, refugees, and detainees who often have nowhere else to turn. With a focus on dignity and empowerment, CARAD offers a range of services, including legal aid, casework support, and crisis intervention. By contributing to CARAD, you are helping those in our community who have been displaced or are seeking refuge from conflict or persecution.

  • Orana House is a refuge dedicated to providing shelter and support to women and children escaping domestic violence. Every year, they assist families who are fleeing unsafe homes, helping them find safety and stability. This Christmas, we are focusing our efforts on providing specific gifts to the women and children currently residing at Orana House. These gifts not only provide some festive cheer but also offer a small sense of normalcy and joy in what can be a difficult time of transition.

    How You Can Help:

    Donate specific gifts for the women and children residing at Orana House. Gifts do not need to be wrapped, but please label them with the age and gender of the intended recipient. The children and women living in the house are as follows:

    • 18 Month-Old Boy

    • 6 Year-Old Boy (x2)

    • 4 Year-Old gGirl (x3)

    • 2 Year-Old Boy

    • 8 Year-Old Girl

    • 7 Year-Old girl

    • 10-year-old boy
